Empowering Clients Through Assessments

Individualised Psychoeducational and Neurodevelopmental Assessments

School-Age Children & Adolescents (Ages 6 – 18)

I provide comprehensive psychoeducational assessments to investigate Specific Learning Disorders in reading, writing, and mathematics (i.e., dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia).

I also provide assessments to explore mental health problems (e.g., depression, anxiety) and/or neurodevelopmental differences, such as Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability, intellectual giftedness, as well as assessments pertaining to functional capacity and adaptive functioning concerns.

Autism assessments are conducted in a neuroaffirming way, with a focus on understanding your child’s strengths, communication style, and sensory profile. ADHD assessments use evidence-based screening tools to build a clear picture of your child’s attention, executive functioning, and behaviour. This helps guide tailored recommendations and identify the right supports. If you’re looking for a comprehensive and individualised assessment process, I’m here to help. Assessment Services

At Deborah Nott Psychology, I provide a range of psychological assessments to help you better understand your child’s cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs. Outlined below are several assessment packages which are intended as a guide only. I may need to adjust the components of the assessment to meet your child’s specific needs. Any changes and their impact on the overall cost will be discussed with you in advance.

Additional appointments, if required, are charged at $250 per 60-minute consultation.

Cognitive Assessment

Cost: $1,500 depending on the complexity of the referral. Medicare rebates are not available.

A cognitive assessment explores how your child thinks, learns, and processes information. It can identify areas of cognitive strength and difficulty and may assist in identifying giftedness or intellectual disability. The results can guide educational planning and determine whether further assessment is needed for specific learning issues.

Includes:

  • Parent interview (in person or online, approx. 50 mins)

  • Cognitive testing (in person)

  • Online questionnaires completed by parent/caregiver and teacher

  • Feedback session (in person or online, approx. 50 mins)

  • Comprehensive report with recommendations for specific support needs

Educational Assessment Process Overview

I offer two distinct assessment pathways depending on the level of detail required.

1. Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) Assessment

(Streamlined pathway)

This is a focused assessment designed specifically to identify learning disorders in reading, writing, and/or mathematics, without assessing broader developmental or psychosocial assessment components. This service is best suited to families seeking targeted recommendations in a shorter timeframe.

This process typically includes:

  • Review of relevant background information and any available prior testing

  • Targeted clinical interview (approximately 30 minutes)

  • Cognitive and academic testing (approximately 2–4 hours, depending on presenting concerns)

  • 30-minute feedback session to discuss results and diagnostic outcomes

  • Written report outlining findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and tailored recommendations

  • Brief follow-up phone consultations with parents and/or teaching staff (as required)

Additional sessions (e.g., extended intake or feedback) may incur extra fees if needed.

Cost: $3,000

Educational assessments are designed for children who are experiencing difficulties with reading, writing, or mathematics that are greater than expected for their age, or who appear to learn in a different way.

This comprehensive service combines cognitive and academic testing to develop a detailed understanding of your child’s individual learning profile, while also considering broader factors such as social, emotional, and developmental functioning.

It is also used to explore whether a child may meet criteria for a specific learning disorder, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia.

By identifying both strengths and areas of difficulty, results can support:

  • Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)

  • NCCD adjustments in school

  • Targeted academic intervention planning

An ADHD assessment can be added to this package for an additional $500.

Includes:

  • Parent interview (approx. 50 minutes)

  • Cognitive assessment

  • Academic achievement testing (oral language, reading, writing and mathematics)

  • Phonological assessment using the CTOPP (where reading and spelling concerns are present)

  • Screening questionnaires (parent, teacher, and self-report depending on age)

Autism Assessment

Cost: $2,500

I am passionate about supporting clients on their neurodiverse affirming journey. I acknowledge that every individual is unique with specific strengths, differences and needs. A range of evidence-based tools may be used depending on your child’s age and specific needs.

Why Is an Autism Assessment Helpful for Your Child?

  1. Understanding Your Child’s Unique Strengths and Needs
An autism assessment provides insight into your child’s individual way of experiencing the world. It highlights their strengths as well as the areas where they may need more support, allowing you to create a nurturing environment that celebrates their differences and enhances communication and connection.

  2. Personalised Support and Growth
When autism is recognised early, your child can receive tailored support, such as inclusive education, speech therapy, and identify sensory-friendly strategies. These personalised interventions can empower your child, helping them develop life skills, improve communication, and build meaningful social relationships at their own pace.

  3. Access to Resources and a Supportive Community
A diagnosis can help to open access to resources, funding, and programs designed to embrace neurodiversity. It also connects your family to a supportive community, where you can share experiences, learn from others, and access information that nurtures your child’s unique journey.

An Autism assessment package includes:

  • Parent interview (online or in person, approx. 2 hours)

  • Cognitive assessment, depending on individual needs ($500 additional fee)

  • ADOS-2 or MIGDAS-2 assessment

  • Online questionnaires (parent and teacher)

  • Teacher phone consultation (30 minutes)

  • Feedback session (online or in person, approx.1 hour)

  • Comprehensive report with recommendations for specific support needs

An assessment for ADHD can be added to this package for an additional fee of $500.'

Autism Assessment – School Observation & Travel

Most assessment appointments take place at my South Melbourne clinic or via telehealth.

For younger children, a school observation is sometimes recommended as part of the assessment process. If this is needed, I am happy to arrange a visit to your child’s school.

Please note that a travel fee applies for school visits

Travel Fee: $105 per 10km (one way), rounded up to the nearest 10km.

Examples:

  • 6km from the clinic = $105

  • 12km from the clinic = $220

If you’re unsure whether a school observation will be required, this can be discussed during your initial consultation.
